Websites: SEO

We’re continuing our blog series about websites — an extremely important tool for any successful business. In order to build or maintain a positive reputation in our industry, you need to have a solid web presence. That means capitalizing on SEO.

What in the world is SEO? Here at Focus we know you know that you probably know what EPDs, calving interval and vaccine protocols … but how about SEO? SEO is the acronym for one of the most important technology terms today, Search Engine Optimization. Search engine optimization or SEO, is a set of rules for optimizing your website for search engines and improving your search engine rankings. It is a great way to increase the quality of your website by making it user-friendly, faster and easier to navigate. SEO can be considered as a complete framework since the whole process has a number of “rules” (or guidelines), often called “best practices”.

So, why is SEO important to today’s cattlemen and women? It’s simple, we live in a competitive market and SEO marketing is more important than ever. Search engines serve millions of users per day, some of those users looking for livestock that meet their needs. If you have a website, SEO can help your operation grow, reaching new customers everyday.

How do we improve SEO? Well, there are about 50 best practices that you can use to grow your operation’s SEO.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

1. Optimize your content for keywords.
Try to think of some keywords that generally describe your operation (Angus breeder in South Dakota; quality Hereford semen) and use those keywords throughout your website. Search engines will use these terms to rank you and let the people looking for you more easily find you.
2. Mobile means everything.
The fact of the matter is that mobile responsive web design has become king of the SEO world. You are more likely to rank high if you have a mobile responsive site. Want to learn more about why that’s important? Read more here.
3. Post relevant content.
Content is the bread and butter of your website. Using content that helps your customers will propel you up in the rankings. Think about things you can add to your website that might be useful to your customers– how about an EPD summary chart or embeddable images of progeny? This kind of content can really help you move up and distinguish your operation.
4. Create backlinks.
Backlinks are links from other websites or social media. Make sure that all of your social media accounts are hooked up with your website, and vice versa. Doing this give you legitimacy in the eyes of search engines. Also, think about how you can get more backlinks? Could you write a blog post for a livestock blog? Link up your sale to another website? All of these backlinks add up to big points for Google rankings.

Doing the above will really help your operation grow, but at Focus we know the average cattleman is too busy for most of these. We have made it easy to integrate all of our services to build SEO, which builds operations! Ask us today how we can help you grow!
