We use Twitter every day. This social medium helps us connect with potential clients and others involved in the livestock industry. We have followers from Maryland to California, even some in Canada and Mexico, as well as across the pond in the UK, Turkey and Australia.

We try to post about 5 times per day, because a tweet only has a “life” of about 1 hour. We want to stay relevant to our followers, keep up-to-date during events and share important information.

We get information by monitoring a few hashtags.

You may have noticed hashtags in a tweet like this:

According to Twitter’s Help Center –
  • People use the hashtag symbol # before a relevant keyword or phrase (no spaces) in their Tweet to categorize those Tweets and help them show more easily in Twitter Search.
  • Clicking on a hashtagged word in any message shows you all other Tweets marked with that keyword.
  • Hashtags can occur anywhere in the Tweet ? at the beginning, middle, or end.
  • Hashtagged words that become very popular are often Trending Topics.

Some of our favorite hashtags to watch are –
