Today on the blog, we have Erick Schmidt … one of the original four who started with FMG. Erick or “Big Daddy E” is our resident tech expert with a myriad of skills behind the computer and the camera … we are so lucky to have him here on our team!

Erick Schmidt, Web Division Manager

1. Tell us about your responsibilities at FMG.
Here at FMG along with Kyla I?m one of the camp counselors, we basically do it all from, picturing and videoing livestock, to designing banners, print ads and websites. Always thinking of that next big idea to help our clients keep moving forward.

2. When did you start with FMG.
Being one of the original 4 with FMG. I have been here since the start back in 2011, its been heck of a ride. Well now we refer to our selves as the Three Amigos, Jake has recently been voted off the island.

3. Share a little bit about your background in the livestock industry.
Growing up showing and raising Hereford Cattle and competing nationally, my roots are very deep in the cattle industry. My family has been involved in all aspects of the cattle industry including buying stocker cattle for feedlots to be later harvested. We?ve had experiences  with mom and pop commercial cattle operations, to a full blown seed stock herds, doing everything from AI, ET, In-Vitro Fertilization.

4. What?s is the best part about your job at FMG?
One of the best parts about working at FMG is my co-workers. It would be hard to find a more hard working team with this much talent in the cattle industry. Our staple at FMG with has been a crazy group chats but now with the Helium App it has become even more entertaining. Also, we get the privilege of working with some of the most impactful operations in the cattle industry. It?s exciting to witness next year?s champions at the ground floor.

5. When working on a project, what?s your favorite tool?
Well this is a hard one, but I would have to say the most valuable tool we have is a great picture pen. Some folks don?t understand the value of a great picture pen … it drastically increases the chances of an easy day and getting killer shots to make these animals bring what they should in todays market.

6. You?re cruising down the road, what are you listening to on the radio?
During my childhood I was exposed to lots and different sounds of music, I listen to just about anything on a daily basis, 70s,80s,90s, to now on my iPad. You can even find the occasional  Spanish tune. The only genre you won?t find is classical or hard core rap.

7. Outside of work, what are your hobbies?
Well on a off days you can find me with a cocktail of some sort, if you are a betting person bet on whiskey. During the fall its football, football, and more football. On the rare occasion if I really need some R&R you will find me in the GKB show barn working that Hereford hair.

8. Share something we might not know about you.
My love for Sushi is border line obsessive!
