Cowtown Bound

Cowtown, or Ft. Worth, Texas as it’s better known, is home to the Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo (FWSSR).

The show’s slogan is “This thing is legendary!” … and we couldn’t agree more!

We love this show.  In addition to the livestock show, they have an impressive concert line up, great food, great shopping and all kinds of rodeos.

Because we get excited to head to Cowtown every year, we wanted to share this image from the early 1900s of the show from the Library of Congress’ Flickr account.

One of the comments on the site about the below photograph is from actressteacher.

She says, “The building in this photograph is the Cowtown Coliseum (built in the winter of 1907-08 in 88 working days) on East Exchange Avenue in the Fort Worth Stockyards. It is still in use today, but not for the annual Livestock show. The Fort Worth Livestock Show moved to Will Rogers Coliseum in 1940 because it had outgrown this venue. The stock show has been there ever since.

I am a former Stockyards tour guide who gave tours through this building. It’s a beauty.”

The history of this show is interesting as well … see what we’re saying, this thing is legendary!

The show officially began on Jan. 17th and runs until Feb. 8th. The junior cattle have moved in and the open class cattle will start next week. To see the full schedule, click here.

Earlier this week, we shared a few of the sales going on in Cowtown. Don’t miss out on these outstanding Limousin, Hereford & Simmental cattle.

What else do we need to see and do while at the legendary Ft. Worth Stock Show & Rodeo? We’re open to restaurant, bar, shopping and tourist recommendations.
