We’re sure that many of our college student friends are happy to be home over winter break. There’s plenty of time to sleep in, catch up with friends and family, spend some time in the barn and just take a temporary hiatus from learning. But remember kids, now is also the time to plan for your summer break too!
Many of you might plan on taking classes or working at home, but you might want to consider an internship. Internships are a great way to try your hands at different jobs and work with influential people in the industry.
We’ve compiled a list of five great internships, where you’ll be able to work with some of the industry greats!
1. Agriculture Future of America (AFA)
The Agriculture Future of America (AFA) offers two summer internships for students based in their Kansas City office. The two internships, marketing/communications and program open to undergraduate students in their junior year or above.

2. American Angus Association
The National Junior Angus Association is offering their junior activities department intern program, available to college sophomores, juniors or seniors. The intern will have the opportunity to assist with the planning and execution of junior shows and leadership events. The internship will provide training and work experience in association work, based in St. Joseph, Mo.

3. American Hereford Association
The American Hereford Association is offering two internships for college juniors or seniors – junior activities and communications. Each will be a unique experience, open to students with an agricultural focus and interested in people, writing, photography and other communications and planning work.

Additionally, the American Hereford Association will be offering 5 ambassador positions for the Junior National Hereford Expo in Harrisburg, Pa., July 5-13, 2014. These positions are open to anyone who is a high school graduate and not competing or exhibiting at the JNHE.

Lone Creek Cattle Co. in Nebraska is offering 5 different internships – beef sales, ranch, farm, calving and cattle records. “We strive to hire and retain personnel who are active learners and workers, and who will consistently and energetically strive to improve our organization. The folks at VitaFerm Sure Champ are offering two internships for the summer 2014 – public relations and sales. Each internship will provide the selected candidate with a variety of experiences related to the livestock nutrition business, in both an office and field setting. These positions will be based out of the VitaFerm offices in St. Joseph, Mo. and will include considerable travel to junior national events across the country.
